In Other News...

Oh, and we found out we are having a Baby!

In July Sam and I agreed for me to stop the Pill, but wanted me to become regulated and such before we would try (so we weren't actively trying).  When ol' Flo didn't come in August, I figured it was because I just got off the Pill so I wouldn't be regular and such yet.  Plus the Internet said so.  And I didn't feel pregnant.  However, end of August I started feeling super tired and sick to my stomach.  I didn't know if it was for real or if it was all psychological because it was a possibility.  Took a test and low and behold:

The line popped up in like 5 seconds, screaming "PREGNANT!!!!!"

Calculating my due date it would be in April (at the end of the semester, when everything is due).  We thought it was such a cute month to have a cute baby in, so we settled our minds to it.

Now, how to announce it to family?

We told my parents first by bringing a cake over saying "Baby on Board".  I found a way for my mom to take off the foil inconspicuously.  For Sam's parents, we put a couple of photos together of us and Sam had them sift through.  The last photo was the one on top of this post.  I sadly couldn't be there but Sam's parents were really excited.

For the rest of the family we decided to order cute announcements off of a site (we had credit for).  It took FOREVER to arrive, and we wanted to tell them soon.  When they arrived, they were cute announcements of a Madelyn Kay....who is NOT OUR BABY.  I got really upset they mixed up orders so we whipped up something quick, printed them at Walmart (actually who was really nice to us), and announced that day to Sam's family (my family two days later...although everyone knew by then except one of my sisters).  We sent some to family out of town, too.  We would have told family sooner otherwise!

So we are 3 months and counting.  Here is my latest belly pic:

It was after a filling dinner, so some of that isn't the baby, but you get the point.

This past Monday I had my first ultrasound:

It was neat seeing my little one moving around and watching its heart beat.  I love the last two pictures: holding its little hands and its little hand rubbing its face.  When we showed these pictures to Sam's dad, he said he liked the bird picture.  It does look like a bird in the last one doesn't it?

Baby Hobbs due April 16, 2013!!

New Lens and Acceptance

We have good news:

Sam got accepted to UNM medical school!  He starts in July next year.  It's such a relief knowing what we are going to do for grad school and such and that we get to stay here in New Mexico.  Bad news: Sam says it's getting harder to get the motivation to do his best in his classes.  Still, even if he doesn't do his best I'm sure it will be fine in the end.

In other news, we have a new camera lens.  We decided to splurge on Christmas early to get a Canon EF ii 50mm f/1.8 lens.  For how much lenses can go for, I'd say it's a really sweet deal.  The aperture is pretty awesome and we can now take shots inside without flash with more ease.  (These are not edited, but still).

Once in a Blue Moon

Once in a blue moon you get to go out and watch the second full moon in a month.  So that's what Sam and I did a couple weeks ago.  Sam took me out to the Volcanoes on the outskirts of town to get a good view of the moonrise.  It was also cool to see the sunset:

The moon took its time for its debut, but it sure was beautiful when it showed up.  Sam and I took our tripod and made ourselves at home on top of an inactive volcano.

We waited until the city lights came and I loved the view!!  Albuquerque almost looked like a modern Jerusalem with the moon being a super bright star or something...Thank you Sam for taking me!

Things are going well for us (for the most part).  Both Sam and I are pretty busy with school and callings, but still find time for each other.  The Primary Program is in a week for our ward and it's been lovely trying to organize it.  Sam attends so many meetings for his calling, whether it's for the bishopric or the Sunday School presidency.  Lastly, Sam got his interview for medical school last week.  I think it went well and I'd be surprised if UNM doesn't accept him (I'll brag for him).  Hope everyone has a good week.

San Gregorio

Last weekend we went on a short backpacking trip to the San Gregorio reservoir with Sam's family.  We mean short in a few ways: it was a mile hike in and we only stayed one night.  It was still pretty fun being with family and making our campground work.  Sam's parents, Jared and Jenny's family,  Jessica and Seb's family and we came along.

Getting ready for the hike up to the reservoir.

Mario found a mushroom to jump on.

Milo can be so stinkin' cute!

And Hudson loved to get close-ups.

We totally packed a queen-sized air mattress in.  Totally worth it.

We also hiked in an inflatable kayak!

Trying it out...

Hudson was not too sure.

We totally thought this bull was coming straight at Jessica and me, but it luckily went around...

to totally check out the lady types.

I don't think the cow enjoyed it.

The night before Sam decided to go ahead and get a fishing license for a day...$20!
(he caught one expensive fish).  We enjoyed having fish covered in butter, lemon juice,
and ranch seasoning!

What Sam carried out:

Upon making it, we decided to pay a random tribute to Tim Tebow.

We enjoyed it, although it was colder and rainier than we anticipated, along with plenty of cow pies.  I'm glad that we were able to fit these little family trips in before school starts.

More Cabin Photos!

I hope you enjoy a few more photos from our cabin trip last weekend!

Here are a couple photos of Kiley's beautiful bouquet:

Our pit-stop at the echo-amphitheater -- it was tons of fun to yell into the echoey wall! :)

Cabin 2012

Kiley and I are currently on an awesome trip to the family share-hold cabin near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. It is amazing! We travelled to the cabin the month we were married last year, and it was a great blessing to return and have some quality family time. Here are some of the highlights:

Puzzles, games (the kids' favorite was "Idiot" that Kiley and I taught them in Mexico), and lots of hanging out. We also did some tubing down the river (which was awesome!!!), but we didn't take any pictures.

This puzzle was ridiculously hard! But, in the end we did it. What an accomplishment! :)

Here's little Maddy hanging out in her tube:

Aren't the twins adorable???

Here I am, just hanging out.

Even at the cabin, we couldn't seem to get away from the iPods. Good thing there was limited internet access and phone reception!

We decided that these two could probably pass as twins more readily than the real ones! :)

Kiley's niece Nicole has some mad skillz with nail polish. We tried to convince her to advertise her talent on Facebook under the name of "RGL Nails" (short for "Ridiculously Good-looking Nails") because she could totally turn it into a business! Here is Kiley's nail job:

At the cabin, there are two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a loft with 7 beds. We put two queen-sized air mattresses in the living area and one twin sized air mattress in the loft to fit the entire family. Crazy! Since Devery and Easton did not end up coming, there were a total of 8 adults 9 kids under 18 year old. How fun!

One of our favorite traditions in Pagosa is to go to the Malt Shoppe where they sell awesome ice cream. Their small cones are HUGE and only cost a little more than a dollar. Yippee!

WooHoo! We made it!

Isn't Kiley beautiful? I love the tie-died shirt she made at her work!

Nolan is the man!

Kiley was excited to see a gum-ball machine and quickly bought a couple. Yum! :)

We also took the time to go on some great hikes. Look at the wild-life that we found!

Here are some photos we took of our hike up to the falls:

Zach, Nicole, and Mariah hanging out before our hike

Tyler is enjoying his hike up the mountain.

We thought this would be a good mushroom for Mario to jump on.

After a full 7-minutes of intense hiking, we made it to the falls! Aren't they great? Since it is so late in the season, there is very little water, but that means we could get a LOT closer to the falls than we usually could.

We took the opportunity to take some family photos:

We are having a wonderful time at the cabin and are excited to stay a little longer. We love spending time with family, and I am grateful that I could marry into such a wonderful family as Kiley's! :)

Here is a picture of Kiley's eye that I took while we were on our hike. I hope you like it! :)

I guess that's it for this post! Kiley is finally done with her work for the summer, and I am done with summer school. We have 2 more weeks left before school starts again, and it should be a difficult semester. Kiley will be taking 18 credit hours, and I will be taking 16 credit hours (including Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry of Biological Pathways) as well as working two jobs. Wish us luck! :)
